Wilderness First Responder Refresher

A 16 hour class dedicated to refresh knowledge and skill or to start you on the right track. From introducing basic human physiology, human vitals to being able to recognize life threats during assessment, all the way to extrication. This class lays it out for you on what the expectation is and helps you understand what it takes to be a successful rescuer. Teaches the tools of switching gears from adventure fun day in the mountains to executing a rescue when the adventure takes a turn for the worse. We will focus on the ‘bread and butter’ of Rescue which is the ASSESSMENT! Also this is a WFR refresher to remind you of what things need to be prioritized during patient care and extrication of a patient from a backcountry setting. Certificate included with course completion.

$340

Wilderness First Responder

Wilderness First Responder

Considered to be a minimum level of training for any guide or professional. The Bliss Wilderness WFR course encompasses a higher and more thorough training than competitors. We pull out all the stops in this class and prepare you for all the things. You will leave this class more ready than you’ve ever been to step into the role of leading an emergency, if you happen to come across one. This class is a prerequisite to being hired as a professional guide in most settings and you will not be disappointed on the growth of your skills after taking this course.

This courses curriculum will be focused upon the need of the group. But as a general outline we will be reviewing human anatomy and physiology, learning appropriate human vital signs and their values, understanding the different types of “shock” and emphasizing recognition and treatments. We will learn to speak the language and focus hard on the “assessment'“ and will be learning it is the little things that are going to make or break this rescue, and the importance of early recognition and prompt smooth decision making.

We will be learning all the steps necessary to run a scene/rescue from start to finish and be able to hand off the patient to a higher level of care competently and effectively, or make a decision that we can handle with the tools and equipment we possess. We will be going over treatment protocols for WFR level of care and be dialing in our medical kits.

Overall we will be running lots of scenarios intermixed with learning topics and building upon our skills as the course gains momentum. We will emphasize a low ego based approach to wilderness medicine with a balance of ‘practice as you preach’ and ‘be prepared for anything’ mantras.

Hit me up with any questions and happy to discuss any more questions or concerns you may have.. But just know, this will be a life altering course for the better and more improved you. We will be the best backcountry partner we can be, and this course will bring us there.

CPR is usually a prerequisite for this course, but can be added to WFR as per needed for each course (CPR card $ fee not included in WFR cost)

$975

This course will be run with ICE AXE Expeditions.

AIARE Rec Level 2

The AIARE 2 is a three-day/24-hour course that provides backcountry travelers an opportunity to advance their decision making skills in more complicated situations such as being a leader within a small travel group, traveling in more complicated terrain, and/or developing a travel plan where resources are scarce.

The AIARE 2 builds on the introductory avalanche hazard management model introduced in the AIARE 1 and adds to it the evaluation of critical hazard assessment factors. Students will describe and discuss weather, snowpack and avalanche processes, and identify how these processes relate to observations and travel within avalanche terrain.
